Why isn't the Oscar 2023 carpet red?
For the first time in sixty years, the Oscar ceremony in Los Angeles decided to forego the iconic red carpet for the star-studded parade.
A 'champagne' coloured carpet was chosen for the Oscars 2023. In reality, the motivation behind this choice is purely technical: the red carpet was abandoned (at least for this year...) in favour of the champagne carpet to allow television footage to create the day-to-night look.
Thanks to the more muted tone of the champagne colour, in fact, it will be possible to achieve the night effect even when there is still daylight.
The Oscars red carpet... changes color
For the first time in sixty years, the Oscar ceremony in Los Angeles decided to forego the iconic red carpet for the star-studded parade.
Why was another colour chosen
A 'champagne' coloured carpet was indeed chosen for the Oscars 2023. In reality, the motivation behind this choice is purely technical: the red carpet was abandoned (at least for this year...) in favour of the champagne carpet to allow the TV footage to create the day-to-night look.
What the colour champagne is for
Thanks to the more muted tone of the champagne colour, it will be possible to achieve the night effect even when there is still daylight.
Jimmy Kimmel's irony
Oscar host Jimmy Kimmel had said that the Academy made the right choice this year: 'You know, people ask themselves: will there be trouble this year? Violent gestures? Here, by choosing a light colour the Academy is inviting us to have confidence: no blood will be shed this year'. The presenter of the 2023 edition referred to what happened last year between Chris Rock and Will Smith. The latter had hit the presenter with a slap, live on air.
The tradition of passing on the carpet
The tradition of the red carpet walk during the Oscars is not simply the moment when VIPs enter the building where the award ceremony takes place, but is a real event within the event, carefully prepared by the organisers.
