007, James Bond and cinema: here are all the actors who have had a double 0, the "license to kill"

The legend of James Bond has not only been created by Ian Fleming 's wonderful novels (he wrote 12, plus two series of short stories, between 1953 and 1966) but also the incredible array of great actors who, over the years, have played this iconic role on the big screen.

007 has, for instance, made famous the Scottish actor Sean Connery, until then virtually unknown, and rebuilt a hitherto somewhat overshadowed career, such as that of Daniel Craig.

In all, up to 'No Time To Die', six actors played the British spy MI6 agent, with varying fortunes, but all of them in their own way remaining in myth and film history.

Sean Connery
Connery, an Academy Award and Golden Globe winner, was the first cinematic performer in 007 and, in the opinion of many, the absolute best of any that followed. For all the filming of all the Bond films, Connery was forced to wear a toupee, but despite this, he quickly became the greatest sex symbol on the planet.

George Lazenby
Lazenby took Sean Connery's place after the latter left after the fifth film, concerned that his image would be merged with that of only one of his characters. Lazenby acted well, but audiences did not particularly appreciate his performance, still mindful of the successes of the Scottish Connery. This very one, he acted in only one film before being replaced. Later, the film was reevaluated especially by Fleming's readers, and there are reports of strong clashes between the actor and the film's director, Peter Hunt, during production.

Roger Moore
Moore was the third Bond actor, and also the one who played him on the big screen the most, with no less than seven films between 1973 and 1985. He was also the oldest actor to debut as 007, being 45 years old in the first film. Moore's performance, which differed slightly from Connery's to avoid the criticism that had struck Lazenby, proved to be a success, and all the films were enormously successful.

Timothy Dalton
Dalton's first performance as the famous secret agent took place in 1987, after Roger Moore, who felt he was too old for the role of 007, finally quit. Dalton played Bond for only two films (a third was planned), and would end the adventure after some disagreements with the production company (EON) due to film royalties.

Pierce Brosnan
Initially, Brosnan was even supposed to be Moore's successor, but since he was already under contract for other commitments, Dalton was preferred. Hired by EON, his four 007 films surpassed all of Dalton's previous films at the box office, restoring the character to his former glory after a six-year hiatus. Brosnan played Bond for four films, and there was much talk of a fifth, but after much talk the actor said no, convinced he was too old as Moore had been before him.

Daniel Craig
He is the second "blond" James Bond after Roger Moore. He has played 007 for five films, proving to be one of the most popular of them all. The debut film, 2006's "Casino Royale," is undoubtedly one of the best Bond films ever. Craig, too, had retired at the end of "Spectre," but was persuaded by the production to return for one last film, "No Time To Die."
