Dannielynn Hope Marshall Birkhead was born on 7 September 2006 in Nassau, Bahamas. She is the daughter of American photographer Larry Birkhead and model, actress and television personality Anna Nicole Smith.

Anna Nicole Smith began her career as a model for Playboy and for years she was recognised as a famous former Playmate. She came to the centre of news and gossip in 1994, when she married 89-year-old billionaire J. Howard Marshall. Following her husband's death, Anna Nicole Smith began a long legal battle for part of the inheritance. She later died tragically in 2007 of drug intoxication.
